ABOUT DAVID TERNER
David Terner graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1999, took and passed the Bar Exam on his first test, and was admitted to practice by the Colorado Supreme Court in Oct. 1999. Prior to that time, David had graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Philosophy. He grew up in Green Bay, WI then moved to Scarsdale, NY, went to Rye Country Day School in Rye, NY and then to the Anglo American School of New York in Manhattan.
His father Fred S. Terner,M.D., should have been a medical practitioner in Austria in the 1930's but was kicked out of Medical School (as were his brothers) for being Jewish. That was the "thank you" from Austria, for which his father, Israel Terner, served in the officer corps of the Austro-Hungarian Army (under Emperor Franz-Josef). His father Israel Terner and mother and older brother Charles/Yitzhak Terner all left for Switzerland, after sending his younger brother Eddie/Moshe to the Shomer HaTsair in Palestine. His family left Fred to fend for himself, and he found passage on the S.S. Hanna from Cyprus to Palestine (but was turned back by the British, who had decided at that time that 30,000 Jews a year was their "quota", even though the Nazis and Austria were slaughtering Jews in the millions. Fred Terner then was sent back to Cyprus where he found employment as a translator and later was offered a job in Africa by a Scotsman. Traveling to Tanganyika/Nyasaland, Fred Terner lived in/around Fort Johnson (in what is now Malawi) until the end of WWII, after which he traveled to Britain and re-applied for Medical School (he was stubborn). Accepted in Sheffield Medical School, he met Elizabeth Anne Alderson, David's mother, and after they traveled to the United States, they married. Fred, a full scholarship student in Austria, had to borrow tuition and living expenses from a charity in England, and only paid that debt off in the 1960's, setting back the family fortunes palpably. Austria offered only token reparation for this financial tort (a few thousand dollars, which is nothing compared to the cost of a medical education and years of lost practice), but then again Austria also had Kurt Waldheim (a Nazi) as its Prime Minister, so expectations were minimal.
Fred Terner died when David was 15 years old, and his mother was not a financial maven (as his mother has financially supported his elder sister, an addict, all of her adult life), so he only did undergrad and law school in his 30's, and knows more than most lawyers what real life is all about. Not having spent years in ivory towers helps inform David about the difficulties we confront in life, and allows him insight into possible resolution sets.
David lived overseas for over a decade, then returned to the States, looked for and found a pre-business, pre-law private college (CMC) and then, as he was interested in Environmental Law, studied law in Boulder, Colorado. As he was an "adult student" he knows the value of education and also has personal experience with student loans (as his mother was supporting his sister Judith Terner). So he knows how the bills pile up.
Originally working for a tech firm (that sent him to Hyderabad, India) after law school, David hung out his shingle after that firm went south. His friends at that firm became his first clients, and he worked with start-ups and sadly, also worked on a number of divorces. That laid the groundwork for his present foci. Some of the tech people had to declare bankruptcy and David helped them through that process. Others got divorced, or had post-decree divorce work (child support/custody and maintenance) that needed to get done. Many created start-ups and David worked with them to create, grow and nurture their business entities. David has also helped hundreds of Colorado residents file for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy protection. In Singapore, David joined his "beshert", a lovely scuba diver from Malaysia whom he had met while diving in Thailand, and who practices medicine in Singapore. They married in 2008 and are the extremely happy and proud parents of a gorgeous little girl.
David returned in September 2013 to his (only) family.

David Terner represented me in my bankruptcy in early 2012. He made the entire process easy, understandable and financially possible. I would highly recommend him to anyone, anytime!
J.J. (client 2011)
I had previously seen another attorney who told me I could not file for bakruptcy despite my dire situation. Then I was referred to Mr. Terner who accurately evaluated my numbers, told me I could file, and handled the whole thing from start to finish in an amazingly short amount of time. Mr. Terner was most reassuring during my difficult time.
Steve L. (client 2011)
Mr. Terner was extremely helpful and knowledgable in assisting me during my bankruptcy procedure. During this potentially stressful time, he kept me calm and informed every step of the way and was successful in getting my bankruptcy discharged. I would definitely recommend using Mr. Terner to anyone who may be going through the difficult process of filing for bankruptcy. Thank you again.

"I recently retained the services of Mr. Terner to help me file my personal bankruptcy. The decision to file was one that pained me and I didn't take it lightly, but Mr. Terner made it a simple, and stress free as it could be. Mr. T is very knowledgeable, prompt in returning emails or calls, easy to talk to during a difficult process. I will certainly use his services again the next time my bankruptcy needs call for it, and would certainly recommend him for any friends and family in need of legal representation."

My business dealings with him have all been fair and honest. I am thrilled that he is moving back to the Denver area soon.” August 17, 2010

“You can only pic 3 in the attributes. Dave is all of them! and it's not fair that 3 can only be picked...I couldn't decide which three would describe him but, if you ever need someone to dig deep and find something that will take the case over the top in a case for you, I highly recomend Dave. Dave is very smart and knows not only what is out side the box of thinking, he won't let the others have a chance to get out of theirs! in other words, no-one is gonna pull a fast one on Dave, "he's already thought of it", no-one will have you believe in something "Dave has already checked it out", and Dave wont stop the momentum or energy he uses for what he is doing for your protection and success in the case!! “Dave is an attorney who will really watch your back. I can't even begin to say all the times he has kept me from doing something stupid in my business and my personal life. Dave is one of the smartest lawyers I know and fiercely loyal. He worked tirelessly for me on several fronts. An example, I asked him to perform something for me that was outside his expertise he learned it without charging me for his education; only his time directly on the matter. I can't praise Dave enough and completely trust him in my legal matters.” July 8, 2010
